New (2026) Why is it important for a christian to get Baptized?
In Christianity, baptism is the sacrament of admission to the church, symbolized by the pouring or sprinkling of water on the head or by immersion in water. The ceremony is usually accompanied by the words “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” In the doctrine originated by St. Paul, it signifies the wiping away of past sins and the rebirth of the individual into a new life. Judaism practiced ritual purification by immersion, and the Gospels report that John the Baptist baptized Jesus. Baptism was an important ritual in the early church by the first century ce, and infant baptism appeared c. 200 ce. Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and most Protestant churches practice infant baptism. The Anabaptist reformers insisted on adult baptism after a confession of faith; modern Baptists and the Disciples of Christ also practice adult baptism.

Baptism is an outward symbol, or public display, that the individual being baptized has repented of his sins and made an unconditional promise to God to do his will. That includes living a life of obedience to God and to Jesus. People who get baptized put themselves on the path to everlasting life.
Water immersion is an apt symbol for the change a person has made in his life. How so? The Bible compares baptism to burial. By going under the water, the person is showing that he has died to his former way of life. When he comes up from the water, he is, in effect, starting his new life as a dedicated Christian.
Baptism symbolizes spiritual purification and rebirth. Baptism represents the washing away of sins and the beginning of a new life in Christ. The symbolism is based on the concept that through faith in Jesus and baptism, people are cleansed of their sins and reborn as God's children.

Baptism is God's gracious act to save you and be for you the God of your salvation, applying to you the salvation He won for you from eternal DEATH.
***What are three important reasons to be baptized?***
As we'll see, Christ not only commands believers to get baptized, baptism is also a gift he graciously gives for our benefit and blessing. Here then are three reasons to get baptized: (1) to obey Christ's command, (2) to publicly profess faith in Christ, and (3) to formally commit yourself to Christ and his people.
***What is the power of baptism?***
***Four things happen when we are baptized and confirmed:***
(1) we become members of Christ's Church and commit to follow Him;
(2) we have our sins forgiven;
(3) it allows us entrance to the celestial kingdom; and
(4) it is the doorway to personal sanctification.
***What happens if you do not get baptized?***
While Jesus told Nicodemus, “Amen, Amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit” (John 3:5)
***What does the Bible say about not being baptized?***
Jesus said, “Whoso believeth in me, and is baptized … shall inherit the kingdom of God. And whoso believeth not in me, and is not baptized, shall be damned” . Baptism is the gateway through which we enter the path to the celestial Kingdom.
